Bird’s Blog of Babel

Welcome!

I love history and by extension historical fiction and most of this site is devoted to historical subjects and my writing. I am also an author and have several novels in various stages of completion. So come on into Bird’s Blog of Babel and discover the many surprises history has to offer. You might learn something new or at least a different angle.

Incidentally, the phrase "Tower of Babel" does not appear in the Bible; it is always "the city and its tower" or just "the city". "Babel" means the "Gate of God", from Akkadian bab-ilu". According to the Bible, the city received the name "Babel" from the Hebrew word balal, meaning to jumble.

The story explains the difference in human language, the dispersal man and man’s competition with God. It’s a reoccurring theme that appears elsewhere in Genesis.

The origin of language has been the topic of scholarly discussions for several centuries. There is no consensus on the ultimate origin or age of human language. The topic is difficult to study because the lack of direct evidence. Many argue that the origins of language probably relate closely to the origins of modern human behavior, but it is still open to debate.

I am currently in the process of updating this blog with a better look and feel and of course new material so comeback often!

As they say, Res Ipsa Loquitur it is what it is. Enjoy!

I have more baggage than the belly of a 747.
